It’s 8:15 on a Saturday morning in Dubai. A parent opens the College Board website to book the SAT. Registration closed 16 minutes ago, at 7:59 am UAE time, while New York was still on Friday night.
That time zone gap catches UAE families every season. It’s one of several traps this SAT registration UAE guide will help you avoid.
So here’s the answer first, then the details.
Quick answer: Register online through a free College Board account. Pick a test date and a UAE centre, then upload a photo that matches your child’s ID. Pay $111, about AED 410. The next open test is Saturday, 5 December 2026. Regular registration closes at 8:59 am UAE time on Saturday 21 November.
| SAT registration UAE at a glance | Details |

| Regular deadline (UAE time) | Saturday 21 November 2026, 8:59 am |
| Late deadline (UAE time) | Wednesday 25 November 2026, 8:59 am |
| Standard cost | $111, about AED 410 ($68 fee plus $43 international fee) |
| Late registration | $38 extra, about AED 140 |
| Time to register | About 30 minutes online |
| Safest ID for expat students | A valid passport |
| Scores released | About 13 days after the test |
We’re Hale Education Group, a KHDA-certified admissions and test prep team in Barsha Heights. We plan SAT dates around university deadlines for families across Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and the GCC. We checked every date and fee against College Board’s official dates page on 27 October 2026.
Below you’ll find every deadline in UAE time and the real cost in AED. You’ll also get the ID rule expats miss and a date plan by grade.
We’ll push back on three popular pieces of advice, too. The earliest test date isn’t always the smartest. Paying the late fee is sometimes the right call. And the printed admission ticket isn’t the crisis many families think.
How Do You Register for the SAT in the UAE, Step by Step?
You register online through the College Board in about 20 to 30 minutes. Your child creates an account, adds a photo, picks a date and centre, then pays $111. There’s no paper or phone option. Keep the passport, a recent photo and a credit card ready.
Do the SAT registration in the UAE steps with your child, because two pairs of eyes catch more mistakes.
- Create the College Board account (5 minutes). Use the legal name exactly as it appears on the passport. If the passport says Mohammed, don’t type Mohd.
- Complete the profile (5 to 10 minutes). Add the school, grade, and graduation year. Skip optional questions if you’re short on time.
- Upload the photo (5 minutes). Use a .jpg, .gif, or .png, taken head-on, with both eyes visible. Religious head coverings are fine. The photo must match the ID.
- Choose a date and UAE centre (5 minutes). Use the College Board’s test centre search. Pick by drive time, not school name.
- Decide on the device (2 minutes). The SAT runs in the Bluebook app on a laptop or tablet. Borrowing a College Board device needs 30 days’ notice.
- Pay and save the confirmation (3 minutes). College Board lists credit cards and PayPal, so avoid prepaid cards. Screenshot the confirmation.
- Pick free score sends (optional). Your child can send scores to four universities for free until nine days after the test.
One detail catches many families out. The name field causes a surprising share of test day trouble. Arabic and South Asian names often have several English spellings. Only one counts: the spelling on your child’s ID.
One more thing. Register once you know why a date suits your child, not just because it’s open. That’s why our SAT preparation in Dubai runs a Mindprint diagnostic before any test date is chosen. It shows how far your child is from the target score.
Does Your Child Need Testing Accommodations?
Request them before you register. Students with a documented need can ask the College Board for support, such as extra time or extra breaks. Approval can take up to seven weeks, so start early. Your child’s school can usually submit the request for you.
SAT Registration UAE Deadlines: When Are the 2026 to 2027 Dates?
Four SAT dates remain open: 5 December 2026, 6 March 2027, 1 May 2027 and 5 June 2027. Each deadline closes at 11:59 pm New York time. In the UAE, that’s 8:59 am the next day in winter and 7:59 am from mid-March.
The 7 November sitting closed to late registration at 7:59 am UAE time on 28 October.
The full SAT registration UAE calendar is below. It adds two dates that other guides skip, the score release and the device request cutoff.
| SAT test date | Regular deadline (UAE time) | Late and change deadline (UAE time) | Scores released | Borrowed device request by |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sat 5 Dec 2026 | Sat 21 Nov, 8:59 am | Wed 25 Nov, 8:59 am | 18 Dec | 5 Nov |
| Sat 6 Mar 2027 | Sat 20 Feb, 8:59 am | Wed 24 Feb, 8:59 am | 19 Mar | 4 Feb |
| Sat 1 May 2027 | Sat 17 Apr, 7:59 am | Wed 21 Apr, 7:59 am | 14 May | 1 Apr |
| Sat 5 Jun 2027 | Sat 22 May, 7:59 am | Wed 26 May, 7:59 am | 21 Jun | 6 May |
We took dates and deadlines from the College Board, then converted the times to UAE time.
Why Does the Deadline Hour Change?
US clocks go back on 1 November 2026 and forward on 14 March 2027. UAE clocks never change, so Dubai is nine hours ahead of New York in winter and eight in spring.
Honestly, the day matters more than the hour. College Board lists the deadline as Friday, but it lands on Saturday morning in Dubai. Treat Friday as your deadline, or better still, finish by Thursday evening while you can fix a declined card.
SAT Registration UAE Fees: How Much Will You Pay in AED?
A standard SAT registration in the UAE costs $111, or about AED 410. That’s a $68 registration fee plus a $43 international fee. Late registration adds $38, so a late booking costs $149, about AED 547.
College Board lists these fees as valid through June 2027.
| Fee | USD | About AED | When it applies |
|---|---|---|---|
| Registration fee | $68 | 250 | Every student |
| International fee | $43 | 158 | Testing outside the US |
| Standard total | $111 | 407.65, about 410 | By the regular deadline |
| Late registration | $38 extra | 140 | After the regular deadline |
| Test centre change | $34 | 125 | Up to the change deadline |
| Cancellation, early | $34 | 125 | Up to the change deadline |
| Cancellation, late | $44 | 162 | Until the Thursday before the test |
| Extra score report | $15 each | 55 | After four free score sends |
US dollar fees come from the College Board’s international fees page. We converted them at the fixed rate of AED 3.6725 per dollar. Several UAE banks add about 3.14% on dollar card payments, roughly AED 13 on $111.
Can UAE Students Get an SAT Fee Waiver?
Usually not. College Board offers waivers to eligible low income students in the US and to US citizens abroad. Other UAE residents won’t qualify, whatever some guides imply.
What Does the SAT Really Cost a UAE Family?
Most students test more than once, so budget for two sittings, about AED 815.
Now for a contrarian view: the late fee isn’t always a mistake. If your child is ready for December but misses the regular deadline, pay the extra AED 140. Waiting three months for March can push a retake past Regular Decision deadlines.
The truly expensive mistake is sitting your child wasn’t ready. That’s why our SAT packages with two attempts include 15 mocks before the first sitting.
What ID Does Your Child Need for the SAT in the UAE?
Bring a valid passport. In the UAE, the College Board accepts a national ID card from the country where you’re testing. It also accepts a valid passport from any country. Emiratis can use their Emirates ID. Expat students should bring a passport because the College Board doesn’t say whether residents’ Emirates IDs count.
Get this wrong and your child is turned away at the door, with no refund.
The ID must be the original, physical document, valid on test day. Digital IDs aren’t accepted, and the name must match the admission ticket exactly. See College Board’s ID requirements page for the full rule.
Two Myths About Emirates ID
You’ll hear two opposite claims about Emirates ID. One says only passports work; the other says Emirates ID works for everyone, and both oversimplify.
Emirates ID clearly works for Emirati nationals. The American University of Sharjah, a UAE centre, also accepts a UAE national ID. For an Indian, British, or Egyptian resident, though, the official wording leaves doubt, and a passport removes it.
Check the passport expiry on the day you register. Embassy renewals can take weeks, and name changes need 30 days’ notice.
Where Can You Take the SAT in the UAE?
SAT centres run across the UAE, mostly at international schools and universities in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah. You’ll see the current list in College Board’s test centre search. Not every centre runs every date. The American University of Sharjah, for example, isn’t hosting the December 2026 sitting.
Prep site lists from 2025 count roughly 75 centres across all seven emirates. Treat that as a rough guide, because centres change between sittings.
- Drive time first. Students must arrive by 7:45 am. A 20-minute drive beats a famous name.
- Check the date list. Confirm the centre runs your sitting.
- Look beyond your emirate. If Dubai looks full, try Sharjah, Abu Dhabi, or Al Ain.
- Do a trial drive. Go the week before, at the same hour.
What If Every Nearby Centre Is Full?
There’s no waitlist for UAE students. College Board’s 2026 waitlist covers US students only, with no international date announced. So pick a centre further away or the next test date, or better still, register early.
Which SAT Date Should Your Child Choose?
For most UAE students, plan a first sitting in the spring of Grade 11. Then retake in the autumn of Grade 12. Grade 12 students applying under Regular Decision this year should book 5 December 2026. Scores arrive on 18 December, before most January deadlines.
| Your child | Dates to target | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Grade 12, Regular Decision | 5 Dec 2026 | Scores land before most January deadlines |
| Grade 12, Early Decision II | 5 Dec 2026 | Check each university’s latest accepted date |
| Grade 11, most curricula | 6 Mar or 1 May 2027, retake Aug to Oct 2027 | Two retakes still fit before November 2027 |
| Grade 11, IB Diploma | 6 Mar 2027, retake Aug 2027 | Avoids May school exams and IA deadlines |
| Grade 10 | A Bluebook practice test now | A baseline beats an early real sitting |
For the bigger picture, see our Grades 9 to 12 admissions roadmap. Pair it with a Dubai parent’s guide to tests and deadlines.
How Do the Dates Fit the UAE School Year?
- 5 December 2026: Just after National Day, nine days before winter break starts on 14 December.
- 6 March 2027: Expected near the end of Ramadan, days before Eid al Fitr. The February deadline falls in Ramadan too.
- 1 May 2027: Three weeks after spring break, near the start of AP and IB exams.
- 5 June 2027: After most school exams, before the year ends on 2 July.
Ramadan and Eid depend on the moon sighting, so confirm nearer the time. IB families can lean on balancing IB Diploma coursework with SAT prep support.
Why Book Two Dates, Not One?
Spring 2026 showed why, when regional disruption closed UAE schools for weeks. Some test centres in the region cancelled the 14 March SAT, Inside Higher Ed reported. A makeup followed two weeks later for some students.
A family with a second date planned loses weeks, not a whole cycle. It’s also why the earliest date isn’t automatically smartest. Booking December in Grade 11 without preparation just burns a sitting.
Our guide to Early Decision and Early Action deadlines explains why November deadlines decide which dates count. Good Digital SAT prep starts from that deadline and works backwards.
What If You Miss the SAT Registration Deadline?
Use late registration. It stays open four days after the regular deadline and costs $38 extra. For December, it closes at 8:59 am UAE time on Wednesday, 25 November. After that, the next option is 6 March 2027.
Late registration works in the UAE too, whatever one older Dubai property guide claims. If it has closed, ask one question. Does March still work for your child’s application deadlines? If not, talk to a counsellor about each university’s score deadline.
Can You Change or Cancel Your SAT Registration?
You can change your test centre for $34 until the change deadline. To change the date, College Board’s policy pages say you must cancel and register again. Cancelling costs $34 before the change deadline and $44 after it.
The late cancellation window ends at 11:59 pm ET on the Thursday before the test. One parent help article suggests dates can be changed in the account. The policy pages say otherwise, so follow them. And cancel properly rather than skipping the test, because the College Board publishes no refund for no-shows.
Which Registration Mistakes Do UAE Families Make Most?
These SAT registration UAE mistakes come up again and again. Each one is easy to prevent.
| Mistake | What happens | How to prevent it |
|---|---|---|
| Name doesn’t match the passport | Refused entry | Copy the passport spelling exactly |
| Paying with a prepaid card | Payment fails | Use a credit card or PayPal |
| Treating a photo upload as approval | The photo fails the review | Recheck before the 5-day cutoff |
| Assuming Emirates ID works for expats | Refused entry | Bring a valid passport |
| Working to Friday night in Dubai | The deadline has passed | Finish by Thursday evening |
| Forgetting the device request | No laptop on test day | Request a loaner 30 days ahead |
| Booking without a plan | A wasted sitting | Book after a diagnostic or practice test |
What Happens After You Register for the SAT?
There’s a short checklist and some waiting. Five days before the test, your child completes the exam setup in Bluebook, which creates the admission ticket. Scores arrive about 13 days after test day.
- Right after registering: Check the name, date, and centre in the confirmation.
- 30 days before: Last day to request a College Board device.
- 5 days before: Photo changes close, and Bluebook exam setup opens.
- The night before: Charge the device, update Bluebook, and pack.
- Test day: Arrive by 7:45 am, or 7:15 am with a borrowed device.
- 9 days after: Last day for the four free score sends.
Does the Admission Ticket Have to Be Printed?
No, though printing is wise. College Board prefers paper but accepts a photo, an email or a phone screen. Phones are collected before testing, so print it and keep a phone copy. It’s a two-minute job, so do it on Wednesday.
Which Tools Actually Help?
These are the tools we recommend, with an honest take on each.
| Tool | What it’s for | Our honest take |
|---|---|---|
| College Board test centre search | Finding UAE centres | Essential, but recheck after booking |
| Bluebook | Official test app and practice tests | Closest thing to the real test |
| Khan Academy | Free official practice | Great for foundations, often easier than real hard modules |
| Desmos | Built in graphing calculator | A time saver after real practice |
| timeanddate.com | Converting deadlines | Reliable. Choose New York as the city |
| Google Calendar | Deadline reminders | Set alerts a week and two days before |
| Common App | US applications | Score policies differ by college |
| UCAS | UK applications | Most universities want AP scores alongside the SAT |
| Mindprint | Learning profile diagnostic | Useful before choosing a date |
Is the SAT Still Worth Taking for UAE Students?
Yes, for most students aiming at selective US universities. For fall 2027 entry, Harvard, Yale, MIT, Stanford, Dartmouth, Brown and Penn require scores. So do Cornell, Georgetown, Caltech and Johns Hopkins. Princeton and Columbia stay test optional for 2027, then require scores from fall 2028.
One thing frustrates us a little: families hear “test optional” and assume the SAT stopped mattering. Yale even dropped its flexible testing option in May 2026, so AP or IB scores no longer replace it. That matters for many families, including those studying in the US as an Indian student in the UAE.
What About UAE Universities and the EmSAT?
The UAE cancelled the EmSAT for Grade 12 entry in November 2024. Each university now sets its own rules. Published SAT Math minimums include 450 at AUS, 560 at AUD and 625 at Khalifa University. UAEU asks for 520 to 590, by programme. Check each admissions page, because figures change.
Some students simply do better on the ACT. If that might be your child, consider the ACT instead before booking a second SAT.
Our prediction? More US universities will bring testing back within two years. College Board’s waitlist will probably reach the UAE eventually too.

Your Next Step
Remember that parent at 8:15 on a Saturday? A faster laptop wouldn’t have saved the booking, but a plan made weeks earlier would.
Here’s your SAT registration UAE checklist, in priority order.
- Choose two test dates, each with a clear reason.
- Check the passport, name spelling and photo.
- Register by Thursday evening in the UAE, before the US Friday deadline.
- Set reminders for Bluebook setup and free score sends.
