Zakariya Fakira
My name is Zakariya Fakira. I am an eighteen-year-old Mauritian student, at the Royal College Curepipe: a Mauritian high school. I have always been deeply passionate about sciences, especially computer science. Apart from studies, I practice tennis and practice coding for fun. I am also concerned about the environment and animal welfare, and I do my best to protect them.
Mehdi Fatadin
My name is Mehdi Fatadin. I’m 18 years old and I live in Mauritius – a tropical paradise island as some might say. I attend the Royal College of Curepipe. My dream is to pursue medicine in university and eventually specialize in surgery. Being able to save a person’s life is just mind-blowing to me. However, I am also curious about other professions. Because I am a huge cinephile, I even wanted to write screenplays at some point in life. Well, who knows? Maybe someday.
Gad Mugambi
My name is Gad Mugambi Njiru. I am a student at Moi High School Mbiruri, in Embu County, Kenya. I come from a humble background, and that has inspired me to work incredibly hard in both academics and extracurricular activities. I would like to study software engineering in college. My community, friends and family have great expectations of me, and I have no intention of disappointing them.
Lakhvir Sohal
My name is Lakhvir Sohal from Mombasa, Kenya. If you were to look at me, my size would probably intimidate you, but I like to think of myself as the real life version of Roald Dahl’s Big Friendly Giant.Most of the time I feel like running away because of the heat but my school, Oshwal Academy Mombasa, has become like a second home. As I approach the final year in high school, I aim to continue my passion for Data Science in college.
Tara Masri
My name is Tara Masri and I am 17 years old. I go to Pioneers Baccalaureate School in Nablus, Palestine. My favorite subjects at school are Math and English, and I am hoping to study political science in college and then go to a law school.
Michel Sadek
I’m Michel, an 18-year old junior looking to transfer to the US. I’m currently a biology premed student at
the American University of Beirut, pursuing a minor in cognitive science. Some of my interests include
MUN and soccer, and I’ve been playing the guitar for around 11 years! Fun fact: I am in the process of
launching my first startup, NeuroNap, a biomedical device used to evaluate a person’s sleep. I’ll be
working on expanding this project when I hopefully get to the US, where I’ll be looking to integrate my
love for neurobiology with my other extracurriculars.
Richard Bikko
Richy’s education journey led to the attainment of a B.A. degree in Justice, Peace & Conflict Studies from Eastern Mennonite University. His education strengthened his resolve to champion social justice and exposed him to a multidisciplinary and multicultural educational environment. His initial work experience was an internship at TASSC International, a human rights organization in Washington, D.C and he moved back to Kenya in 2012 where he joined DIPAD, a peacebuilding and development organization that works at the intersection of restorative justice, trauma healing, and leadership development. His initial work experiences gave him a deeper understanding of the liberating and transformative power of both formal & informal education. In 2013, he joined Global Minimum Inc. (GMin) as a volunteer and was captivated by the organization’s vision of engaging and inspiring young Africans to be at the forefront of creating a more just and equitable world through education. Since then, he has grown with the organization and played a key role in developing and running workshops on Design Thinking, Project-Based Learning as well as leadership, and social entrepreneurship. He’s also been instrumental in developing GMin programs to be more accessible and inclusive for all young leaders. Mentoring young leaders at GMin is one of his most treasured moments as he gets to see firsthand the impact and transformational journey the youth are making towards creating social change in their communities.
Sonia Bendre
I graduated from Oxbridge Tutorial College in Nigeria. I love the arts and robotics, and recently launched and hosted a radio show. I plan to study engineering at university.
